Packaging machines: summary 2017 and vision 2018

With a turnover that is still growing, reaching 7,190 billion euros in 2017 (+ 8.9% on 2016), the industrial group represented by Ucima confirms itself as one of the most dynamic sectors of the Italian capital goods sector.

On the international markets it is neck and neck with Germany and cross-border sales are at 5.7 billion euros (79.1% of the total), an increase of 7.5%. The positive trend of the domestic market also continues, with a growth of 14.4%, exceeding 1.5 billion euros. The main food sectors are food and beverage. The sector has registered a positive trade balance of 5.2 billion euros, up 7.1%:  these results are generated by 634 companies that employ 32,227 people (+ 8.7% on 2016).

Forecasts. Despite the volatility of the markets and the variability of geo-political conditions in various areas of the world that make it difficult to make reliable predictions, Ucima President Enrico Aureli is confident that the sector can reasonably manage to maintain the growth trend registered last year. «The Centro Studi Ucima predicts that good performances will continue in Italy and in Europe and those of Asia and Africa will improve, with increases between 6 and 6.5% in the two-year period 2018-2020».
