The packaging sector – Data 2016 (1)
According to preliminary analysis by Istituto Italiano Imballaggio, the sector ended 2016 with approximately 2% growth compared to 2015, or 15,600 t/000 (value expressedin t/000).
Foreign trade performed well, in terms of both imports and exports. The former exceeded 2,000 t/000 (+12.5%), while the latter may have exceeded 2,800 t/000 (+3.5%).
Apparent consumption, which is calculated using the classic formula “production + imports - exports”, saw approximately 3% growth, reaching 14,880 t/000.
The sector’s modest growth is completely in line with the conditions of the Italian and global economy, with a slightly slower recovery than had been expected.
