Mineral oils: stop to contamination

In Europe the debate between the major European retail chains and food companies about food contamination by mineral oils present in recycled cardboard is open.

Taghleef Industries confirmed that its range of BOPP EXTENDO® high barrier film ensures maximum food protection due to the excellent barrier to migration of these dangerous compounds (as shown by a study conducted in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging). The level of protection provided is equal to or higher than that of polyester film, benchmarking in this context, and clearly better than acrylic lacquer or PVDC film. The EXTENDO® range is suitable for packaging various food products, but it also ideal for secondary packaging in medical applications. During printing, laminating and cutting the various versions are very resistant, since the barrier is not achieved through superficial lacquering but is an intrinsic property of the material. Easily printable (the same as the most common BOPP film) they guarantee excellent preservation of aromas and a high oxygen barrier, in addition to reducing packaging weight.
