The Jakarta government launches campaign to save the coffee industry
The fall in sales that has hit Indonesian bars and restaurants due to the Covid-19 outbreak has had a severe impact on the more than 1,200 coffee producers located in the various regions of the archipelago.
In a bid to boost this key sector for the national economy, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, local industries and the Indonesian e-commerce marketplace Tokopedia have teamed up to launch a campaign entitled #SatuDalamKopi.
Tokopedia will facilitate online sales of local products through a dedicated webpage providing users with all the information they need to choose between the various types, qualities and aromas of coffee. Tokopedia will also provide companies with the support and training they need to use the platform, as well as marketing strategies to help them reach the largest possible number of buyers.
The campaign not only aims to help the coffee industry promote products, boost sales and keep prices stable, but also to encourage people to stay at home. Indonesia is among the top 4 coffee producing countries in the world. Exports in 2018 reached almost $580 million, up 19.1% on 2017.
