San Benedetto cuts CO2 emissions by 18.7% over five years
San Benedetto, an Italian market leader in the soft drinks sector, is continuing its efforts to protect the environment.
Over the last five years the Veneto-based group has reduced the greenhouse gas emissions of its Ecogreen line by 18.7%, a result equivalent to the CO2 absorbed by 140,767 trees in a year or the emissions generated by 65,146 LED lamps (11.5 W) operating 24 hours a day for a year.
100% of the CO2 eq. emissions of the Ecogreen product line are offset by the purchase of credits for financing greenhouse gas reduction projects, while the products are made with up to 50% recycled plastic (RPET), the maximum level currently permitted by law in Italy.
The company has also made some significant advances in terms of packaging. Between 2013 and 2018, San Benedetto reduced the weight of its 0.5L, 1L, 1.5L and 2L Ecogreen bottles by 5%, 18%, 18% and 10% respectively.
The five Italian sites in Scorzè, Donato, Popoli, Atella and Viggianello optimise the use of local water, bringing production closer to the places of consumption and reducing transport costs.
In 2018, this avoided 19,618 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions, corresponding to a reduction of 24,537 km in road transport.
