Fazio: “We will help enterprises to manage the new developments”

The president of the Italian Packaging Institute and of the Ethical Packaging Charter Foundation: “The Institute, faithful to its technical role, can only observe from an impartial perspective and seek to exploit the opportunities that emerge from this new Regulation”.

The Ethical Packaging Charter Foundation and the Italian Packaging Institute have always been committed to the development of sustainability paths linked to packaging, with a holistic approach that takes into account the needs of consumers, industry, environmental and economic ethics, fundamental for an element present everywhere in everyday life.

«The approval of the PPWR is a cultural revolution - affirms Alessandra Fazio, President of the Italian Packaging Institute and of the Ethical Packaging Charter Foundation – which will have an impact on the national productive system and, as a consequence, also on a part of the habits and lifestyle of all of us as citizens. It’s undeniable that there will be problems to face, like in every step change. The Italian Packaging Institute, faithful to its technical role, can only observe from an impartial perspective and seek to exploit the opportunities that emerge from this new Regulation. With our profound knowledge of regulatory matters, we are committed to providing enterprises with specific interpretive and training tools, useful for managing new obligations, for a transition which is as simplified as possible.

In our view, the most complex aspect to deal with is, probably, the risk of conflict between the provisions of the new Regulation and certain laws in force, regarding food safety, for example. It will be interesting to see how they can be managed and which will prevail, if and when choices have to be made, but we want to leave a positive message, looking rather at the opportunities and the potential arising. It must be remembered, in fact, that it will be a text that is the same for all EU countries, therefore an advantage from the point of view of uniform and equal application for all. »
