Eway: a road that leads afar
The name Eway evokes the path of development taken in 35 years, accompanied by stringent commitment and technical expertise, while pointing towards achievements still to be attained. The new generation of labelers developed by Etipack: a "concentrate" of passion and quality, at the service of the market and fully future friendly. l.g.
On 7th November last the spotlights on the stage of the town of Sesto San Giovanni’s Museo dell’Industria e del Lavoro (MIL) were all for them: Strong, Energy and Extreme, Etipack’s new series of Eway industrial labelers, compact, sleek (that is beautiful to look at) and efficient, offering superior performance at limited costs.
And right from the first glance, they confirmed the impression of being able to provide an exemplary service while reflecting the ability of the Cinisello Balsamo based company to adapt to changing times, offering the market “substantial” alternatives.
All things considered, charged with meaning too the choice of the MIL as the venue for hosting the technological premier: a space set up with the very intent of celebrating the value and nobility of work, and emblem of Sesto San Giovanni, one of the city-symbols of Italian industriousness, as was pointed out by company director Davide De Ferrari on opening the event.
Market philosophy
However, it was Marco Parretti, commercial director of Etipack, who got to the heart of the matter, illustrating the philosophy that has inspired the development of the new generation of labeling machines.
«Ten years from "Blu", the Eway labelers first and foremost reflect Etipack’s ability to interact with the market, to glean its demands to then turn the same into concrete proposals. But they also bear witness to our firm intention to invest in smart development, capable of providing solutions tailored to the needs of our users at an affordable price and with a technological value that can make the difference. In practice, 30% less space occupied by machinery facilitates their insertion in the packaging lines, and their "standard" yet modular design conception enables their adaptation to current and future production needs, offering each company the possibility of modifying or expanding the configuration thru the installation of required components. But it is the adoption of an innovative technology that allows us to present a unique product in terms of performance and costs: the Eways in fact mount magnetic coder retrodriven stepper motors, which ensure maximum accuracy of labeling even at high speeds».
«In other words - states Marco Baietti (machine BU manager) - Etipack has achieved something out of the ordinary: they have reduced the overall dimensions of the machines but not the performance, increased the reliability but not the costs, thus making an original high-level technology available to everyone».
THE THREE MODELS Strong, robust and accessible this machine represents the labeling tradition, with a revolutionary price for the up to 30 meters/min range. Energy, modular and universal, is the heart of the technological evolution of the Eway line thanks to the adoption of the innovatory hybrid motor. Extreme is the labeler with unsurpassed performance, with application rates that exceed 3600 labels/min. |
From idea to solution
To Valter Colombo (today Etipack advisor) and the technical director Massimiliano Basilico the task of expounding the heart of Eway technology... None of the numerous guests could suppress their emotions as they recounted the genesis of their latest releases, Strong, Energy and Extreme (in addition, the Eway machines are the result of a 2 year project involving developers, technicians and marketing experts, in cooperation with a team from the university of Udine lead by professor Roberto Petrella Ed).
«When we started work, we had some very clear objectives: we would have to "invent" modular machines that are easy to assemble around the world, featuring quick and easy technical solutions, but we also needed to work on size, for example making them small enough to facilitate shipment. We also knew we had to adopt the latest generation electronics, to ensure increased levels of performance and reliability. All this, of course, in the name of cost containment and lastly, in respect of the aesthetic canons that have always distinguished our products».
Essential in this development, the contribution made by the Electric Drive Lab of Udine (which studies electronic drives and power electronics) and whose work was well summarized by its coordinator, Professor Roberto Petrella.
He was the first to be surprised with the results obtained in what was initially a low key development of a fully digital drive for hybrid stepper motors and that, over time, has instead taken on a different bearing, «thus generating an incredible number of substantial innovations that Etipack has managed to interpret and transfer onto their new machines achieving and improving efficiency and reliability, physical size and economies of scale. The final adoption of magnetic encoder retrodriven stepper motors means in fact being able to handle multiple functions simultaneously, from the control of the motor itself and its speed, to label distribution, with clear economic advantages».
Last but not least, a reminder that the prototypes of the labeling machine were made in ABS with a latest generation 3D press-moulder, installed by the manufacturer three years prior, something that in the case of the Eways, has effectively contributed to generating further savings.
To conclude. The Eways are the hallmark of a broad sharing of expertise, which - in hindsight - was also present in the organization of the November 7th event. Indeed we witnessed an interesting as well as compelling gathering which did not merely stop at the many users and customers present: the various Etipack headquarters around the world were in fact connected up with the MIL event via a well-orchestrated multimedial link-up in live streaming, thus enabling far-flung local operators to savour the atmosphere of the encounter “live”.
Hats off
