An “OK COMPOST” flexible packaging film
After a long development phase, SDR PACK has obtained the OK COMPOST certification for a compostable monofilm produced in-house in compliance with EN 13432. It is the first goal of a virtuous path undertaken by the company, which aims to formulate an evermore extensive environmentally friendly offer.
Devise and produce solutions able to reduce the impact on the environment and at the same time guarantee a product that meets the expectations of its customers is a daily objective towards which SDR PACK works with passion.
When it comes to the circular economy, the use of packaging that can be recovered as much as possible via segregated collection is a crucial factor, the object of international policies that aim to head producers, users and consumers in this direction. This is why the Veneto company has been working for some time on the study of a range of compostable films for the production of more sustainable flexible packaging. In this process, a first goal achieved was to obtain the “OK COMPOST” certification of an in-house produced PE monofilm, which is hence 100% compostable.
Hence SDR PACK can now propose a bioplastic packaging that can be collected in the segregated “bio waste” fraction: added value both for the environment and for users, as certification represents a sure advantage also in marketing terms.
As explained by Nicolò Ferracin, Commercial Director ofeSDR PACK e «Attention to technological innovation and an open dialogue with customers along with the desire to make a concrete contribution to sustainability has led us to embark on the “adventure” of compostable film production. We have studied various solutions, monofilm and laminates, suitable for a wide range of products, and the OK COMPOST certification of the monofilm is a first important goal achieved».
SDR PACK’S commitment does not stop here. The company is in fact already moving towards new goals, first of all, the certification of a compostable laminated film. «This is an ambitious project that we are investing heavily in and that is particularly close to our hearts - concludes Ferracin - as it will allow us to extend the use of sustainable packaging to a wider range of products».
And soon... also a new plant
SDR PACK has started a consolidation project that will lead to a further development of its activity in two years, thanks to the expansion of its production area that will reach 20,000 square meters overall. The first works involve the extrusion department, which will be transferred to a new, modern, cutting edge wing of the plant by May 2018.
«It is a matter of pride to see our company grow and thus create new jobs», says Nicolò Ferracin, Commercial Director of SDR PACK, who continues: «The new works will be made more efficient with the introduction of the latest technologies, allowing us to keep up with market demands, guaranteeing the best possible service».
