Security: the controller that makes the difference

Quick setup, integration of all necessary functions for palletizing systems and strict adherence to regulations: in addition to these traditional strong points of ReeR safety barriers, with the new Mosaic controller it is now easier to build and update installations.

In addition to the many regulatory changes governing the safety of machinery installed since 2010, today the design and implementation of a safety system for a packaging line must also take into account eventualities such as expansion or adjustment, which may affect single machines as much as entire parts of the system. The Mosaic solution developed by ReeR responds to this necessity: it’s modular, configurable and capable of managing a system’s safety functions. Furthermore, it enables designing security systems with the knowledge that they can be expanded, integrated or adjusted later on.
Mosaic can manage most safety sensors and commands, including encoders and proximity for safety speed control.
Depending on the plant’s complexity, the system can be composed by the main terminal alone (Master M1 equipped with 2 safety outputs and 8 inputs) or, at the other end of the continuum, by the main module and 14 expansion modules, making a total of 128 inputs, 16 safety outputs and 32 signaling outputs.
MB modules enable Mosaic to interface with the most common industrial fieldbuses, and MCT interfaces enable the use of just one cable for de-centralization of the various modules that make up the system, making it a suitable solution for linking multiple machines along a production line.

Speed and motion
MV expansion modules have been developed for motion control (axis speed), enabling safety speed monitoring (up to PL e) for zero speed control, maximum speed, speed range and direction (rotation/translation).
The Mosaic modules integrate incremental encoder inputs (frequency up to 500 KHz) and proximity switches and offer the possibility of configuring up to 4 speed thresholds for each logic output (axis). Each module controls two logic outputs that can be configured through MSD and is thus capable of controlling up to two free axes. A few examples of application: for zero speed control, Mosaic verifies that the dangerous device is at a standstill; this enables unlocking gates or movable guards so that operators can safely access dangerous areas.
For maximum speed control, on the other hand, the system verifies that the safety speed set (reduced) is not exceeded. This enables safely performing operations of maintenance or adjustment of the system.

INTUITIVE SETUP. Mosaic Safety Designer is the (free) software for configuring the system. Its graphics, based on drag & drop windows, is simple and intuitive. Two functions prove particularly useful for designers: validation, which permits checks in the design phase, and the monitor function for testing during installation.
In addition, the project report provides the actual PFH, DCavg and MTTFd values necessary for calculating safety function performance level..
