Ti Film: innovative and eco-sustainable solutions

Taghleef Industries is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of BOPP, CPP and BoPLA film, with a capacity of more than 385,000 t/y of standard and special BOPP film, and a presence in 5 continents.
The company’s R&D work, to which significant resources are dedicated, is concentrated in the two areas of food packaging and labels.

Food packaging. In this context, efforts have been mainly directed to improve protection, extend the shelf life and reduce environmental impact. Here are a couple of significant results.
• Extendo™ is a range of multi-layer co-extruded films with the qualities of BOPP (lightness, transparency, sealability, machinability, barrier to water) and gas barrier properties typical of other polymers.
The result is a very thin material (up to 20 microns) that can alone replace heterogeneous laminates such as PA-PE, PA-PP, but also PET-PP, PET-AL-PE, in addition to representing an excellent alternative to the traditional coated PVDC, ALOX or SIOX.

Extendo™ includes transparent, white and metalized film for horizontal and vertical machines, film for lidding of PP and PE seal trays, and it is evolving up to including PLA Nativia™ based compostable barrier film.
• The Nativia™ range is based on Ingeo™ PLA polylactic acid: a bioplastic derived from raw materials of plant origin, fully biodegradable and recyclable that, thanks to lower greenhouse gas emissions, is truly eco-sustainable. The range includes transparent glossy heat sealable fllm between 20 and 50 microns thick. All Nativia™ films are food contact suitable and have a multitude of applications.
 
Technological labels. The range of Taghleef products for self-adhesive labels includes BOPP and bio BoPLA based film, which can be used coated or non-coated as face and backing web.
In particular, BOPP substrates are highly appreciated for their high gloss, excellent mechanical properties and rigidity; their LSA film features excellent clarity, ideal in the “no label look”; LSE film  is pearly white, with a high yield and capacity, and is used in the personal- and homecare segments.
• LIM 45μm is a new high performance white voided film for in-mold labels: the perfect choice in combination with “Full Cover Label decoration” technology. Like all Taghleef IML film, it has an excellent adhesion to PP containers such as cups, tubes and lids, and provides excellent resistance to moisture.
• The LXI 38μm is the new Taghleef proposal for reel-fed wrap around labels. It is a BOPP white superlight voided film, appreciated for its excellent machinability and because it helps improve label sustainability.
