Chr. Hansen expands its probiotics portfolio
In a $530 million deal, Denmark’s Chr. Hansen has acquired Hansen, Wisconsin-based probiotics manufacturer UAS Laboratories.
The company has a strong track record based on documented strains and high-potency multi-species blends of dietary supplement probiotics, serving a range of application areas. These include six trademarked strains within a range of indications including digestive disorders, immune stimulation, infant probiotics and weight management.
With the acquisition, Chr. Hansen becomes the owner of two production facilities in the United States, which the management believes will accelerate the company’s efforts to grow its Health & Nutrition business globally, especially in Asian markets. The company had already shown an interest in the probiotics business and at the end of April acquired HSO Health Care, expanding its offering in the category of women’s health.
The Danish company, which produces natural solutions for the food, pharmaceutical and agricultural industries, was announced as the most sustainable company in the world at the World Economic Forum in 2019. This prestigious recognition is the result of an in-depth analysis of 7,500 large corporations conducted by the Canadian magazine Corporate Knights with the aim of compiling a ranking of the 100 most sustainable companies on the planet.
