Ferrero’s sales boom with Nutella and biscuits
Ferrero International, the parent company of the Ferrero confectionery group, approved the consolidated financial statements for the year ended 31 August 2019 with a turnover of €11.4 billion (+6.2% compared to the previous year).
Finished product sales grew by about 6%, driven by sales in Germany, France and the United States, while the brands that contributed most to the growth were Nutella, Ferrero Rocher and Kinder Bueno, along with fresh and festive products and the highly popular Nutella Biscuits.
During the reporting period, the Group supported its technological development strategy with an expansion in production capacity for a total investment of €663 million. The largest share (€580 million) went on property, plant and equipment, predominantly in Italy, Germany, Canada, Poland and Belgium, and on completion of the new headquarters building in Luxembourg.
The group also undertook intensive M&A operations. In May 2019, the Alba-based group acquired a majority stake in Ice Cream Factory Comaker (ICFC), Spain’s leading producer of ice cream for private labels, followed in July by the acquisition of the Keebler, Famous Amos, Mother’s, Murray, Little Brownie Bakers, Stretch Island and Fruity brands from Kellogg Company.
The workforce also grew significantly to 36,372 employees as of 31 August 2019 (compared to 35,146 as of 31 August 2018).
