Huhtamaki to produce 8 million protective face shields per week

Huhtamaki, a global leader in sustainable food packaging solutions, is expanding the production of its CE marked protective face shields for healthcare professionals and frontline workers in the UK.

Currently produced at the company’s Belfast plant, the protective face shields will soon be made at five additional European locations with the goal of reaching an output of 8 million shields per week in June.

Huhtamaki will begin producing the shields in Blackburn, UK; Gliwice and Czeladz, Poland; Ivanteevka, Russia; and Ennis, Ireland. The Belfast site has a current capacity of four million face shields per week.

The visor is made of recyclable PET, but the company is looking into making the entire face shields 100% recyclable in the future. Commercial deliveries outside the UK are expected to start in May.
