Two new acquisitions in the pharmaceutical sector, from packaging to products
Two leading healthcare industry players have completed major acquisitions aimed at expanding their industrial operations and accelerating growth.
The first is Bormioli Pharma, a leading Emilia-based pharmaceutical packaging group which has completed the acquisition of German firm Remy & Geiser (R&G), a supplier of plastic and glass primary packaging for the pharmaceutical industry.
The operation strengthens Bormioli Pharma’s position in German-speaking markets and in Northern Europe, where it will expand its portfolio with complementary products and enhance its technological potential. R&G develops, produces and sells screw closures, dosage aids, pipette droppers and tubular glass vials at two factories located in Schleusingen and Altenfeld and employs a workforce of 270 people.
The other operation is a $915 million deal for the acquisition of Dova Pharmaceuticals (USA) by Swedish group Sobi, which specialises in rare disease treatments. The acquisition provides Sobi with the drug avatrombopag, a product used in the treatment of thrombocytopenia which generated revenue of $10 million in 2018.
