For a new industrial colour vision

Versatile and high-performance, the colour linear video cameras officially launched by Basler Italy at the beginning of December 2024 embody technology capable of transforming inspection and sorting processes in various sectors

The combination of speed, precision, and colour detection capability opens up new opportunities for improving quality, efficiency, and cost control in industrial operations that require machine vision.

In practice, the colour linear video cameras offered by Basler acquire images “line by line” while the object moves, eliminating problems of motion blur, which are typical of area-scan video cameras in high-speed contexts. Thanks to the ability to detect colours with precision, the technology recognises specific colour codes, identifies imperfections or damages, and reads barcodes or QRs in dynamic environments, guaranteeing efficiency, reliability, adaptability, and integration with AI and Machine Learning systems.

Application contexts

In logistics, for example, in which the classification (sorting) of packets, letters and products is a critical operation for ensuring the efficiency and optimisation of distribution and sorting processes, the introduction of colour linear video cameras and high-resolution and high-speed sensors offer an advanced solution to identify, classify and trace moving objects on conveyor belts. In the food & beverage sector, in which it’s necessary to inspect the quality of food products, the technology makes it possible to verify freshness based on the shade of the skin, in addition to packaging and label traceability features. Moving on to inspection operations, Basler colour linear video cameras are effective on tiles and other ceramic materials to detect surface defects, identifying micro-cracks, colour variations, non-conforming patterns or colour uniformity. Looking at printing, finally, the technology is ideal for checking colour fidelity in printed materials, such as magazines, packages or labels, or for alignment and registration aspects.
