Fake meat in strong demand in the USA
According to the latest figures provided by Nielsen, retail sales of fake meat in the States increased dramatically in March.
The peak growth of +454.1% was reached in the week ending 21 March. However, the various brands that had focused on the food service industry are now facing major challenges.
One such example is Impossible Foods, which supplied 17,000 foodservice points but just 150 retailers.
The company is working hard to redirect supplies to supermarket shelves, a task that has been simplified by the latest FDA guidelines.
The authority recently eased labelling rules so that products intended for foodservice points can be sold to retail outlets unlabelled.
