Diageo subsidiary Meta Abo Brewery switches from glass to PET
Meta Abo Brewery, the Ethiopian subsidiary of Diageo (UK), has invested US $14 million in the expansion of its Malta Guinness non-alcoholic malt drink production and bottling plant in the town of Sebeta.
Along with the expansion, the company chose to switch from glass to 330 ml PET bottles to facilitate use by consumers and thereby boost demand.
The factory, which has a capacity of 32,000 bottles per hour, was completed in the space of a year with the creation of 270 jobs. The British company has declared its commitment to effective recycling of PET bottles, for which purpose it will cooperate with the South African PET recycling company PETCO.
