McCain Food to open plant in Brazil
The Canadian frozen french fry giant McCain Foods has announced a US $100 million investment to build its first factory in Brazil, which will be located in Araxá, Minas Gerais state.
The company expects to generate 150 direct jobs, 450 indirect jobs and positively impact approximately 750 farmers and agricultural professionals.
The new factory is due to be opened in the first half of 2021 and, combined with the Balcarce plant in Argentina, will fuel the company’s growth plans in Latin America.
In May 2019, McCain acquired a 70% stake in Sérya (Araxa), a Brazilian company operating in the same business sector which produces 12,000 tons of products per year.
In March 2018, it established a partnership with Forno de Minas, which owns the remaining 30% stake in Sérya.
