Fileni embraces logistics 4.0 with a new dynamic warehouse
Fileni, one of Italy’s leading poultry producers, has opened a new fully automated distribution hub built to 4.0 technology standards in Cingoli (MC).
Built over a period of approximately 12 months alongside the company’s headquarters, the state-of-the-art facility covers a surface area of 5,100 m2 and involved an investment of around €18 million including building work, plant and equipment.
It is the largest crate warehouse for fresh produce ever built in Italy and one of the most innovative in terms of the complexity of the software used to control and manage the entire plant. It features 108 shuttles, 18 elevators, 2.6 km of motorised conveyors, 5,700 photocells and 50 scanners.
The warehouse 4.0 receives the entire output of the two facilities in Cingoli and Castelplanio and subsequently performs all operations of weighing, labelling, pricing and preparation for shipment. The project is part of Fileni’s business plan, which amounted to a total investment of €90 million in the last three years (the 2019-2020 plan entails a further €50 million).
The scale of the investment is reflected in the company’s more than positive results, including estimated double-digit growth in revenue to €408 million in 2018 (+12%).
