Solvent-free inks
SunChemical is developing products in order to substitute solvent-based inks with water-based inks that carry a reduced environmental impact in various packaging sectors.
The use of solvent-free inks makes processes simpler, enabling a reduction in costs and greater safety, with no investment necessary in order to drastically reduce emissions of volatile substances into the atmosphere, while limiting the risk of fire and the need for operators to use flammable pro-ducts. AQUALAM water-based inks were developed with these goals in mind, featuring good adhesion to various plastic films suitable for subsequent lamination using polyethylene, polypropylene and polyester with solventless adhesives.
SunChemical is constantly researching new green, environmentally friendly technology solutions. The latest creation in this spirit is WETFLEX technology, based on trademarked latest generation inks with no photoinitiators, in which ink webbing occurs in a field of electrons.
These inks are free of solvents, emitting no volatile substances into the atmosphere, with good adhesion to various types of plastic films and containing no photoinitiators that might migrate through the printed packaging. Once webbing is completed through the field of electrons, the print features high chemical resistance to various substances and excellent scratch and abrasion resistance. For this reason, WETFLEX technology has found uses even in printing on children’s diapers.
